Runyon Canyon

Are you looking for a new place to train? Enjoy steady inclines with a mix of paved fire roads and mountain trails? Do you enjoy running alongside some four-legged friends? Then Runyon Canyon is the place for you.

I recently traveled up to this area in Los Angeles for some Spartan Ultra training with some beasts from my gym. This was my first time at this park, and I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I arrived early in the morning, while it was still dark, and walked in. It seemed to be a relatively quiet off-leash dog park nestled among the hills behind Hollywood and Highland.

As the sun began to rise, we had set off on a four to five-mile loop, which we planned to run about four times. Although, once we hit the tops of the first hill we had to stop and turn around. A gorgeous sunrise with a view of the Los Angeles skyline and the Hollywood sign was behind us.

View from Inspiration Point Trail

After a moment of taking in the view and some photos, we set off and continued our run. We were weaving through the trails, up and down the canyon, and to the tops of the ridges. It was a wonderful park to explore and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new place to run.
